This post was written by Henyo and I´m posting because he couldn´t do it. (ilhado)

======

Here is a game I won against the chess engine REBEL 3 which is rated 2354 in my computer Pentium3 667 MHz. This was played in 2002 and the opening is the Tarrasch variation of the French Defense.

REBEL 3 (2354) - Henyo [c06]
05/01/2002

1. e4 e6 2. d4 d5 3. Nd2 Nf6 4. e5 Nfd7 5. Bd3 c5 6. c3 Nc6 7. Ne2 Qb6

[7... cxd4 is the most popular move today.]

8. Nf3 cxd4 9. cxd4 f6 10. exf6 Nxf6 11. O-O Bd6 12. Nc3

This is the main line. There are other alternatives here for White.

12...O-O

[12...Bd7 is another option.]

13. Be3 Bd7

[Bad is 13... Qxb2 ? 14. Nb5 Be7 15.Rb1 Qxa2 16. Ra1 Qb2 17. Ra4 and Black's Queen is in danger of being trapped after Bc1. Play may continue with a6 18. Bc1 axb5 19. Rxa8 ! (Not 19. Bxb2? bxa4 and Black had more than enough compensation for his Queen. The passed a-pawn and also the b-pawn will be major problems for White)19... Qc3 20. Bxb5 Ne4 21. Qa4 Bd7 22. Ba3 and White has the advantage plus the exchange up.]

14.a3

[Here 14. Re1 is another option.]

14... Qd8

[14... Be8 another option.]

15. Nb5 ?!

[Waste of time 15. h3 I think is best here preventing ...Ng4. Other moves in this postion are 15.b4 and 15.Rc1]

15... Bb8 16. h3 Qe7

[the idea here is to play ...a6 and after Nc3 then ...Qd6 with a mating threat on h2]

17. Qb3

[The Queen threatens the d5 pawn in case Black plays ...e5. But better is 17.Re1 which puts the Rook on the half-open e-file and clears the f1 square for the King escape]

17... Kh8

[a prophylactic move. Black wants to play ...e5 so the King hides to avoid possible check by the White Queen on b3 attacking d5. The immediate ...e5 here is not effective for example 17... e5 ? 18.Nc3 Be6 19. dxe5 Nxe5 20. Nxe5 Bxe5 21. f4 Bd6 with Black having an isolated d-pawn]

18. Bg5

[looks okay pinning the knight on f6 but actually it weakens the defense on d4 which can be exploited by Black if he sees the combination! Better for White is 18. Rfe1 so if after 18...a6 19.Nc3 Be8 20. Rac1 with an equal game]

18... h6 ?!

[Missing 18... a6! 19. Nc3 Qd6 20. Rfd1 Nxd4! exploiting the overworked Knight 0n f3. The knight cannot defend both the d4 and h2 simultaneously. 21.Nxd4 Qh2+ 22. Kf1 Nh5! 23. Ke1 Bf4 $1 24. Bh4 Qg1+ 25. Ke2 Qxg2 26. Qxb7 Bh6! and Black Wins!]

19. Bd2

[Better is 19. Bh4 with idea of defending with Bg3.]

19... a6 20. Nc3?

[Bad move. The best chance for White is to play 20. Ne5! threatening a knight fork with Ng6+ 20...Bxe5 (or 20... Nxe5 21. dxe5 Ne4 22.Bb4 Qg5 23. Bxf8 Bxb5 24. Bxb5 Qxe5 25. f4 Qd4+ 26. Kh1 axb5 and Black has the advantage here. Planning ...Nd2) 21. dxe5 axb5 22. exf6 Qxf6 23. f4 and White still survives with a playable position]

20... Qd6

[according to plan]

21. Rfe1

[The alternative is 21. Ne5 Nxe5 22. dxe5 Qxe5 23. g3 Qh5 24. h4 Ba7 25. Be2 Qg6 26. Bf4 Bc6 and Black is still winning]

21... Ng4!

[Black unleashes a mating attack. The idea of the sacrifice of the exchange on f3 is one of the idea in this variation of the French Defense]

22. Be3

[after 22. hxg4 Rxf3 23. gxf3 Qh2+ 24. Kf1 Nxd4 Mate is unavoidable.]

22... Rxf3 !

[the plan in fulfillment! or 22... Nxe3 23. Rxe3 Rxf3 24. Rxf3 Nxd4 is also disastrous for White!]

23. gxf3

[or 23. hxg4 Qh2+ 24. Kf1 Rxe3 25. fxe3 Bg3 and Black has many threats!]

23... Qh2+

[Stronger seems 23... Nxe3 24. fxe3 Qg3+ 25. Kf1 Nxd4 26. exd4 Qxf3+ 27. Kg1 Qg3+ 28. Kf1 Qxd3+ 29. Re2 Bb5 Black Wins!]

24. Kf1 Nxe3+ 25. fxe3 e5 !

[with a threat of mate after 26...Bxh3#]

26. Reb1

[this loses quickly. Still after 26. Re2 Qg3 27. Rf2 Bxh3+ 28. Ke1 exd4 29. Ne2 Qh4 30. Nxd4 Bf4 ! 31. Nc2 Re8 32. Bg6 Nd4 ! Black Wins!

26... exd4 27. Bf5 Bxf5 28. Ne2 d3 29. Qc2 dxc2 30. Rc1 0-1

and REBEL 3 resigns!! 0-1
